San José del Cabo sits at a crossroads between the copper toned desert and the roaring Pacific Ocean, two apparent opposites. However, they actually complement each other into an incredibly vigorous environment and landscape. Same goes for its dining scene, an extensive collection of refined and heavily awarded restaurants, complemented by a wonderful cluster of small local joints with outstanding quality and authentic vibe.
We are more into the second group than the first. So, in the name of the love we have for food and for you, we did an exhaustive research of all the “holes in the wall” in Downtown San Jose.
We offer you the list of our favorites for you to try while you are here; bring comfy shoes, a good appetite and we strongly suggest you eat a lot with your hands. The unofficial sign of enjoyment of good Mexican food. Enjoy!
AGUACHILE EL MOKY
A few blocks away from the main square you will find this small place with a great reputation as one of the best “aguachiles” in town. Known for its simplicity, great flavor and freshness, cold beer available.
MARISCOS COSTA AZUL BAJO EL PUENTE
Beach “Costa Azul” is known for surfing and camping, but for the locals is what is under the bridge, literally, that we rush towards. Atop a plastic table under an umbrella on the side of the road that runs under the bridge, sits the best place in all Baja to have fresh Oysters and Almejas (clams). The ultimate chill vibe amongst locals on the way in or on the way out from the beach, get there around noon to be able to get as many as you will want to have.
LA ESQUINA DE LA TENTACIÓN
“Choyeros”, as we call the people from San José del Cabo, have one true love: fluffy, soft, appetizing, dreamy white flour tortillas. This spot, a few minutes drive from downtown, has the best of them in the shape of Super Burro and glorious quesadillas.
ALTA MAR
The style of the food that you’re gonna find in this place is something unique. Located away from any touristic zone, this little place with an open 360° view over San Jose has one of the best tostadas and seafood I have had. Fresh, natural and full of lots of love in every ingredient. Filled with great energy and good vibes, this little place of deliciousness is an enjoyable experience to everyone.
